Critical Humanitarian Response: Gaza Winter Emergency

Current weather conditions have increased the immediate need for shelter reinforcement and nutritional support. Humaniti is mobilizing resources to sustain essential aid delivery.

Situation Analysis: The Winter Crisis

As winter progresses, weather patterns continue to impact displacement sites across the region. The primary humanitarian focus has shifted to addressing the challenges posed by cold temperatures and rainfall, which are straining existing shelter infrastructure.

1. Shelter and Living Conditions Seasonal rains and winds are affecting temporary encampments. Many families are currently residing in makeshift structures that lack adequate insulation or waterproofing. There is a critical need to reinforce shelters to ensure families remain dry and protected from the elements.

2. Health and Environmental Factors Prolonged exposure to cold and damp conditions presents a health challenge, particularly for children and the elderly.

  • Thermal Protection: The lack of heating and warm clothing increases the risk of seasonal illnesses, such as respiratory infections.
  • Sanitation: Flooding in localized areas impedes access to clean environments, requiring increased hygiene support.

3. Food Security Status Food systems remain under pressure. Ensuring consistent access to nutrition is vital to maintaining public health during the winter months.

  • At-Risk Populations: 1.6 million people continue to face food insecurity.
  • Child Nutrition: Nutritional support programs remain a priority to prevent malnutrition among children under five.

Humaniti Operational Response

Humaniti continues to operate on the ground, utilizing established logistical channels to deliver aid where it is needed most.

Aid inside Gaza

  • Orphan Support: Humaniti once supported over 5,000 orphaned children. Reduced funding has forced support to scale back to 3,000, creating an urgent gap for 2,000 children who still need monthly care.
  • Winterization Support: Distribution of waterproof tents, heavy-duty tarpaulins, and thermal blankets to improve living conditions in displacement zones.
  • Nutritional Aid: Daily provision of hot meals and clean water to families in the North and South governorates.
  • Medical Support: Mobile teams are providing general healthcare services to communities with limited access to hospitals.

Supply Chain Operations (Egypt & Jordan) We have scaled up cross-border logistics to ensure a steady supply of goods throughout the season.

  • Egypt Corridor: Convoys are staging essential supplies, including staple foods, hygiene kits, and winter protection materials, which are being delivered into Gaza.
  • Jordan Corridor: Teams are processing bulk shipments of flour and specialized nutritional supplements to support dietary needs.

Needs Assessment (Winter 2026)

Based on data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

  • Shelter: Over 1 million people require support to weather-proof their living quarters.
  • Water Access: Clean water sources require maintenance and protection from flood contamination.
  • Food Security: 571,000 individuals are currently classified at "Emergency" levels of food insecurity.
  • Nutrition: Approximately 290,000 children require ongoing nutritional monitoring and support.
