OCTOBER 2026 UPDATE

One year after the ceasefire agreement, families in Gaza are still struggling to meet their most basic needs. Food assistance is being cut, clean water supplies are under pressure, and the approaching rainy season threatens families living in damaged tents and makeshift shelters.

Needs Assessment (October 2026)

• Food Assistance: Food Assistance: Funding shortages are forcing the World Food Programme to reduce food assistance in Gaza by around one-third, leaving 500,000 people without this support. Food rations for families still receiving assistance have also been halved.
  
• Water Access: Drinking-water production between 6 and 12 October was 34% lower than the weekly level in mid-September. Shortages of fuel, engine oil and spare parts continue to threaten essential water services.
  
• Shelter: Around 950,000 displaced people are living in sites at medium to high risk of flooding. Available supplies can partially assist only 18% of the 294,250 families needing shelter support for the rainy season.
  
• Children: Around 800,000 children remain displaced, most living in tents or unsafe, damaged buildings. Cold weather, poor sanitation and overcrowding add to the risks they face.
